When a more intense color is placed on the upper portion of a wall with a lighter or neutral hue beneath it, the entire room is thrown off balance, appearing top-heavy and unanchored. In designing with color, itÕs essential not only to follow principles of the color wheel in choosing your color combinations, but also to address color balance. Walls follow the same color-balance concept as fashion: Just as you wouldnÕt wear a lighter skirt or trousers with a darker, more intense shirt or jacket, neither should you dress walls lighter on the bottom than on the top.
